About Strynø

If you turn up Kirkevej from the Maypole you will get to Strynø Church. The church was built in 1867 and designed by Jens Wilhelm Dahlerup and Ove Pedersen, which also designed the Central Station in Copenhagen and Staten's Museum for Kunst. Normally the church is open for visitors in the daytime.

From the church down Kirkestræde and you will pass one of the many ponds on the island. In the summertime you can see hundreds of green frogs hopping in the water as you pass, or on a hot sunny day they will lie floating with their nose just above water, and in the evening you can hear their loud croaking. In the ponds on the island there are also a smooth newt and a crested newt.

If you continue down the road Møllevejen you will come to Strynø School, built in 1905 the school is a sign of the time when more people lived on the island. Designed to 60 pupils and with a teacher-flat on the first floor. The school is still used for the children on the island until the 5. grade.
